It is often stated that while energy therapies can make patients feel better, nobody understands why.
In a few decades, scientists have gone from a conviction that there is no such thing as an energy field around the human body, to an absolute certainty that it exists. Moreover, science is explaining the roles of energy fields in health and disease.
The main reason for the recent change in outlook is the development of sensitive instruments that can detect the minute energy fields around the human body. Of particular importance is the SQUID magnetometer, which is capable of detecting tiny magnetic fields associated with physiological activities in the body.
During the period 1935-1956, professor Harold Saxton Burr at the Yale Medical School reported that the beginnings of disease can be detected in the energy field of the body before physical symptoms appear. Moreover, Burr was convinced that the progress of physical symptoms can be reversed by restoring the energy fields to normal.
Medical researchers all over the world are now confirming many of Burr’s conclusions. SQUID instruments are being used to map the ways diseases alter biomagnetic fields around the body.
In the early 1980’s, John Zimmerman used a SQUID magnetometer at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver to study Therapeutic Touch [TT]. Zimmerman discovered that a huge pulsating biomagnetic field emanated from the hands of a TT practitioner. The frequency of pulsations is not steady but sweeps up and down, from 0.3 to 30 Hz., with most of the activity in the range of 7-8 Hz. Zimmerman’s findings were confirmed by Japanese scientists studying practitioners of various martial arts and other healing methods.
Scientists have found that pulsating magnetic fields can ‘jump start’ healing in a variety of soft and hard tissues, even in patients unhealed for as long as 40 years. Specific frequencies stimulate the growth of nerves, bones, skin, capillaries, and ligaments. Of course, energy therapists, and their patients, have daily experiences of the healing process being ‘jump started’, but academic medicine was suspicious because there was no logical explanation and no clinical proof.
For a severe injury, with damage to a number of different kinds of tissues, several medical devices, each with a specific pulsation frequency, would be required to stimulate healing. In contrast! The biomagnetic pulsations from the human hand naturally sweep back and forth through the range of therapeutic frequencies.
